| Earth Charter Summits
Annual Nationwide Network Gathering
In the United States,
the primary initiative to raise public awareness of
The Earth Charter and its implementation
was shouldered by Jan Roberts
at the Institute for Ethics and Meaning in Tampa, Florida.
To support local community efforts
to apply Earth Charter Principles,
once a year, on the second Saturday of October,
an Earth Charter Summit is held,
when individual communities unite
to celebrate The Earth Charter,
all interconnected by satellite broadcast and internet webcast.
An Earth Charter Summit is when local leaders,
organizations, businessmen, governments, churches
gather for a day to discuss strategy to assess and
guide efforts toward sustainable community.
An Earth Charter Summit gathers people
to express this message of hope, courage and commitment,
and invite more people into our circle of sustainability.
An Earth Charter Summit's first purpose is
to increase Earth Charter awareness and knowledge.
An Earth Charter Summit also can mobilize
community leaders and resources into new networks
of collaboration, action, planning, and support
needed to restructure social and geographic links
within the community and with nature.
