Pfeiffer Nature Center, located in southwest New York a few miles east of Olean, is 188 acres, which includes about 85 acres of remnant old growth hardwood forest, with large specimens of Eastern Hemlock, White Pine, American Beech, and Red Oak. A variety of ecotypes are found on the property, including coniferous, oak, and mixed deciduous forests.

Pfeiffer Nature Center, founded in 1998 by a bequest from Wendy Pfeiffer Lawrence, is a non-profit, tax exempt organization with the purpose of building a foundation of knowledge, understanding, and appreciation for the intrinsic value and aesthetic qualities of our natural world. The Center promotes responsibility and stewardship for nature within the local and global community through a variety of programs.

The center offers approximately 6 miles of trails, spectacular views and educational programs for visitors of all ages. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, Naturalist and Interpretive Trail Guides are available for questions, guided tours and programs, Thurs.-Sat. 9am-4pm, Sun. 1-3 pm, or other days by prior arrangement. Call for reservations. After Labor Day, call to schedule a program or tour.

Directions to Pfeiffer Nature Center from Buffalo Take NY 400 south to Rte. 16 continue as for 'from the West' below from Rochester Take I-86 to Cuba Take NY 306 to Portville (15 miles) At the light, turn right onto Main Street One block past next light, turn right onto Maple Street from the West Take I-86 to exit for Rte. 16 Olean Take Rte. 16 to downtown Olean Turn left onto State Street (Rte. 417) Go 6 miles to Portville Pass Town Park, turn left onto Maple St. from Maple Street Go to end of Maple Street (one block) Turn left onto Lillibridge Road Go 4 miles to Pfeiffer Nature Center Last .5 mile is dirt road, sign for Nature Center on right
