Step It Up Albany Three 2007
Earth Charter Summit
national day of community conversations on sustainable futures
Saturday, October 13, 2007

Step It Up 2007 successfully launched a new social, political and technological initiative in America to respond to the climate change challenge.

Are you ready to take the Next Step in 2007?
Are you ready to join commmunity-scale dialogue on our common future?
A community summit to define challenges, identify options and and enact solutions?

The Earth Charter articulates our best growing global consensus of the path to a sustainable planetary future.

The Earth Charter was written through an unprecedented worldwide communication to define the Values and Principles for a sustainable human society.

The Earth Charter consists of
16 core values and
61 supporting principles.

The Earth Charter was released in June 2000 at a ceremony at The Peace Palace in The Hague in The Netherlands, hosted by
King and Queen, the Netherlands
Maurice Strong, executive secretary, 1992 Rio Earth Summit
Mikhail Gorbachev, founder, president, Green Cross International
The goal is to express a common vision of the world we can create.

In North America, since 2001, an Earth Charter Summit has been held the second Saturday of October

Last year, Earth Charter Summits were held in 43 communities in America.
This year, the first Capital Region Earth Charter Summit
will be held on Saturday, October 13.

An Earth Charter Summit is one day when a community gathers
to learn about The Earth Charter, its values, its principles
to discuss their path into the future, to design that future today

An Earth Charter Summit calls community leaders together
to speak in Roundtable discussions
to share successful strategies
to form regional action networks in a multitude of issue areas,
to imagine a legacy and a future for our next generations
to reinvent our communities as connected, renewable, sustainable, ecological
to celebrate the Earth and all its living communities of ancient and infant organisms

An early May meeting will begin to plan this Next Step:
An Capital Region Earth Charter Summit
to hold coherent community communications
to address our common ecological challenge

But don’t wait until then:
